Entrevistas 5: Stevie Copter (ENG)

By No Fun For You! on 06:41
Voltando e atualizando novamente as páginas de No Fun for you!, hoje iremos mais além do que temos ido habitualmente.

Em nossos trabalhos, tive o prazer de entrevistar um certo sujeito atendido por STEVIE COPTER!

Hey man! Nice kind!

So let's keep the things easier...

Enjoy!!!

The early times, the first touch by the rock music, how all begins, first bands etc;

Brothers and sisters, hot rods and cool riders, hip cats and dirty dogs, my game is strong and my rap is long so pull up a chair as I lay down our pedigree...
Copter was born 500 years in the future, the story of how we came together playing rocket-powered rock n' soul music in the 21st century is an unnecessarily complicated tale involving a soul heist, the theft of an interstellar craft, death, resurrection and a cosmic witness relocation program. I know, I know, it's a lot to take in and it seems almost too fantastic but it's all explained in detail in our 3d comic book biography, you can get them at the shows if you are really curious.

Once we settled in your time we found rock n' roll and soul music to be one of the most vital life-bloods that there is... when we heard the JBs for the first time and saw The Parliaments on the 'Say Brother' TV show we knew what we had to do. This is a mission, a chance for us to get down with kindred spirits and hopefully create something unexplainable and out of this world.
We have no choice, we have to do this and we love it more than anything else, dig?

Copter?

Copter is myself Stevie Copter on preaching duties (Taurus), Dave Copter on guitar (Aquarius), Woz Copter on bass (Pisces) and Mark Copter on drums (Cancer). We are just 5 punks who dig garage and soul music and want to share our stories, love and energy with as many people as we possibly can. We try and do this at 1000 miles per hour via our live show where we like to create an electric congregation and get the crowd involved in the happening.
We also sometimes have our mentor M.I.L.O Droid with us on stage, he's a robot with a theremin for a head and a sewer for a mouth.

- Influences, cool stuffs, bands you like, great cds/eps/singles;

Our influences are broad and wide just like our various pant sizes, they go from Stax n' Stones, Otis n' The Seeds, The JBs n' The Who to most of todays bands we have had the pleasure of sharing a stage with like Blues Explosion, The Dirtbombs, Kid Congo Powers, The Dexateens, Weird War, The Woggles, Speedball Baby, The Jam Messengers... the list is almost endless. We have been very lucky with our encounters on our journeys and most of these bands have stayed firm friends.

We also dig bouncing ideas around and being inspired by our ColdRice brothers The Castillians, Swampmeat, The Lusts, Sex Beet, Vinny & The Curse, Solid Soul Disciples and even those no-good bastards Black Mekon.

But first and absolute foremost? Soul music. That's maximum sex. That's where the scene is for Copter.

- All about "Rock!" what it means to you?

Rock can sometimes be unfairly misconstrued as something aggressive and macho, for us it's all about the moment and connecting with the congregation, creating electricity between us and whoever is in the room when we play a show, you know? That moment when it all syncs. There can be 5 or 500 people there, numbers don't matter, it's about the spark between us, the sweat dripping from the ceiling and the rhythm.
This ideology might seem more gospel than rock but that's how it is for us, breaking down those walls so everyone is free to lose their cool, get with their neighbor and sex it up on the dance floor, be part of the band and just dig the moment. When the crowd is right there with us and we are all getting off together, that's rock for us. Yeah.
- How do you see the local scene there in ENGLAND?

For us, England is ColdRice. We have created a small rock n' roll family on Fazeley Street in Birmingham, a group of cats that all get together to make around 10 bands... like a low rent Stax revue, all playing on each others records, sharing stages, dig? We have built our own club, record label and recording studio and welcomed brothers and sisters from around the world to join in the congregation. With ColdRice we now have this wonderful worldwide network of rock n' rollers that know they have a home in England whenever they need it.
The people who come to ColdRice know that there is no pretense, they there is nothing to prove or be uptight about and that they will be involved in something special. Just ask anyone who has been to one of the Underground parties, they will tell you that it is the real happening scene in England.

I can't speak for everywhere else in the country, there are small pockets of like minded cats doing good things and there are some great bands around, but really the scene in England depends on the city / event / weather / if there is something better on the TV... there is no real unifying scene.
That is why we created ColdRice, doing our duty. Fuck TV nights, get involved in something happening.

- Brazil?

We will see in October!
I love what I have heard from bands like Human Trash, The Black Needles, The Dealers, Dead Rocks, Fabulous Gogo Boy From Alabama and of course everything Uncle Butcher touches turns to gold. We have had limited exposure to the bands over there so we are all really looking forward to experiencing some fresh sounds when we tour. Also looking forward to blowing loads of cash on lots of your 60s garage vinyl.
Our intrepid sailor buddies Swampmeat and Black Mekon, who have already graced your shores, tell us the scene in Brasil is a wonderful gathering of free thinking cats that are hip to good music and open to new sounds, so we can't wait to get down with everyone there. Can. Not. Wait.

- Final coments for all;

People, get on your feet, you sho' nuff make me nervous when you're in your seat, kick off them shoes and get soulful, cuz baby we'll be barefootin' all week!
If we are in your town come get with us, turn on, make the scene, we will turn the heat up to 5000 and make a good mess... see you in October, Dig it!

COPTER BIOG ( Conheção a banda)
--------------------

We play needle-down, rocket powered rock & soul from outer space to your dancing feet via your inner ear.
We play with a fierce right side of the brain and are all about keeping it below the belt.
We're from 500 years in your future and we've been here since 2000.
We've played live with Blues Explosion, The Dirtbombs, Heavy Trash, The Soledad Brothers, Weird War, Bob Log III, Kid Congo Powers, Dan Sartain and many, many more of our favourite bands.
We've recorded 4 albums you can listen to, the first one was recorded in New York by legendary producer Matt Verta-Ray and featured James Chance of The Contortions.
We have a 3d comic book biography.
We've played in art galleries.
We've played in strip joints.
We've played in front of 5 people and we've played in front of 1500.
Sometimes we have a robot with us, sometimes we don't.
But we always, always, have soul.
